Awards Categories

When you’re nominating you needn’t worry about recommending the person or group you nominate for a particular category, as we will do that when we receive the form. It’s often the case that a nominee can fall into more than one category.

Here are our categories:

Business Supporting the Community Award

This category recognises volunteers from businesses across the borough who go that extra mile, and give their time for free to support local communities and causes. Or it could be a business who’s given financial support to local not-for-profit groups.

Children & Families Award

There are thousands of volunteers across our borough making a real difference to the lives of children and young people. Without them, many activities and specialist support would simply not exist.  Their passion and commitment helps enrich the lives of local children and young people.

Healthy Communities Award

This next award is presented in honour of the thousands of volunteers from all across Dudley borough, who make a massive difference every day, to the health of our local communities.

Community Action Award

These awards go to people who have taken action to make a difference to the lives of others in their community.

Wellbeing Award

Volunteers can help with wellbeing through giving their time and supporting people to deal with issues and problems they may be experiencing, so they feel better about their lives. The difference that such volunteers make to people’s wellbeing is clearly demonstrated by the inspirational nominees receiving recognition in this category.

Sporting Champion Award

There are thousands of volunteers and coaches in community sports clubs across the borough playing a vital role and without their passion, time, energy and commitment, many clubs, team sport sessions and coaching sessions would not be able to run.

In short, volunteers and coaches make sport happen.  Without this dedicated group of people, who willingly give their time to enable others to play the sport they love, grassroots sport wouldn’t exist.

Ray McGuirk Young Volunteer of the Year

The Ray McGuirk Award for outstanding Young Volunteer of the Year is a very special award and is given to young people from across our borough, who demonstrate a commitment to making a difference in their local communities and are positive role models to other young people.

Arts & Heritage Award

Most of your favourite arts and heritage events and venues rely on volunteers, to do roles such as helping in museums, providing support backstage at performances, as well as facilitating community arts, drama and music. A host of inspirational volunteers take up these roles and enjoy the opportunity to get their creative juices flowing!

Gordon Lindsay Award for long service in volunteering

The Gordon Lindsay Award is given each year in recognition of a long-term commitment to volunteering, in memory of Dudley CVS’s late Chairman. Usually the person receiving this award has volunteered for at least 25 years and often more.
